The Wonder of Flight
I am happy to show you this artwork as I've been working on it for a long time (4 months, not including time spent learning before I started). I rendered this scene about 40 times, and I have had tons of ideas on what to include and exclude from this scene. I consider this my first original piece of artwork. Besides the grass and the plane in the sky, I created all of the meshes, image textures, and materials you see in this scene.
Creating the main character took the longest, but the final touches took almost as long. Another challenging part was modelling the paper airplane. Like the rest of the scene, it's physically accurate and the folds are all real folds. Folding paper in a 3D program is a nightmare. This artwork is a bit of a self portrait from when I was young. I lived near a farm that would get crop dusted every spring, and the plane would fly 100 ft above our backyard. I loved making paper airplanes, too. I'm still very fascinated by aviation.
I had a lot to learn to finish this project, and I'm quite pleased with how it turned out.
